Actor George D. Wallace dead at 88

LOS ANGELES, July 27 (UPI) -- Film, TV and stage star George D. Wallace has died in Los Angeles at age 88, it was reported Wednesday.

Wallace died Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from complications of injuries he suffered in a fall while vacationing in Italy, his wife, actress Jane A. Johnson, told the Los Angeles Times.

Wallace's career spanned more than 40 years and 80 films. He was Commando Cody in the 1952 "Radar Men from the Moon" film serial and most recently appeared in "Minority Report."

His 125 TV appearances included "Hopalong Cassidy," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Joan of Arcadia."

He made his Broadway debut in Richard Rodgers' "Pipe Dream" in 1955 and replaced John Raitt in "The Pajama Game" in 1957. His other Broadway credits include "New Girl in Town" with Gwen Verdon and "Jennie" with Mary Martin.

He met his wife of 40 years when they performed together in Long Beach, Calif., and the couple kept up the tradition through the years appearing in such musicals as "Company," "Kiss Me Kate" and "Funny Girl."

A memorial service is scheduled for noon Friday at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
