The Doors drummer wins suit over old mates

LOS ANGELES, July 25 (UPI) -- Former Doors drummer John Densmore has stopped former bandmates Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger from touring as "The Doors of the 21st Century."

Densmore told Rolling Stone: "I think our old lead singer would be happy," referring to the late Jim Morrison, whose 1971 death essentially silenced the band.

Manzarek and Krieger began touring in 2003 with the new name using various lead singers. This summer's tour saw Ian Asbury in Morrison's stead.

Densmore as well as Morrison's family won a permanent injunction in Los Angeles Friday barring Manzarek and Krieger from touring or recording with any name utilizing "The Doors" and they were ordered to give portions of the profits they have earned since 2003 to the Morrison estate.

The ruling restored the original band partnership with each member holding an equal share, Densmore said.

When he filed the suit in 2003, Densmore told Rolling Stone he was trying to "keep the integrity of what we did a long time ago."
