Wesley Snipes nabbed with fake papers

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, July 15 (UPI) -- Hollywood actor Wesley Snipes has been labeled an "undesirable" in South Africa for allegedly trying to pass through an airport with a fake passport.

Snipes was detained at Johannesburg Airport last month after immigration officials determined the South African passport the actor was carrying was phony, the World Entertainment News Network reported Friday.

South African Home Affairs spokeswoman Nkosana Sibuyi said Snipes told officials he had applied for the South African papers through his U.S. attorney.

"During the interview it was established that Mr. Snipes did have fraudulent South African documentation in his possession," she said. "Mr. Snipes and his attorney agreed to cooperate with the Inspectorate of the National Immigration Branch in their investigation in this matter."

Snipes was allowed to return home because he had a valid U.S. passport, but South Africa reduced his immigration status to "undesireable" as a result of the incident.
