Tom Cruise starts filming 'MI3'

ROME, July 12 (UPI) -- Tom Cruise brought river traffic to a standstill as filming began on "Mission: Impossible 3" in Rome.

Cruise smiled and waved to the crowds Monday when he wasn't powering a speedboat down the Tiber River, the BBC reported Tuesday. The popular actor is expected to be shooting in Rome through Friday.

Filming on "Mission: Impossible 3" was delayed for months after director Joe Carnahan quit over creative differences. At the helm now is Jeffrey Abrams, creator of the ABC TV show "Alias."
