NEW YORK, July 10 (UPI) -- Actor Michael Chiklis says he doesn't know if his acclaimed TV cop drama, "The Shield," will continue past a sixth season.

The Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning star just wrapped his fourth season playing rogue LAPD detective Vic Mackey on the F/X series. He is set to start shooting a fifth season in mid-September.

"I don't think that this will be the last year, but I don't know if we'll go much further than a sixth year," Chiklis recently told reporters in New York. "I don't know. It really depends on if it stays fresh, if it stays compelling and if the quality is at a level that we feel justifies it going forward."

Chiklis can also be seen playing The Thing in the big-screen adaptation of the comic book series, "Fantastic Four," now in theaters.
