LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- The female stalker of actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has been sentenced in a Los Angeles court to three years in prison.
Thirty-five-year-old Dawnette R. Knight, infatuated by Zeta-Jones' husband, actor Michael Douglas, had threatened to kill Zeta-Jones over an 18-month period, sending her more than two dozen letters and phoning her in hotels, the Los Angeles Times said.
"I know what I did and I know that it was wrong, and I've learned from my mistake," Knight told the judge at sentencing Friday. "I just hope that one day the victim will forgive me."
Knight pleaded guilty in February to stalking and threatening Zeta-Jones. Defense attorney Richard Herman argued that Knight's threats were not serious and had urged his client be sentenced to probation.
