EDINBURGH, Scotland, July 7 (UPI) -- The final Live 8 concert in Edinburgh included a videotaped message from former South African President Nelson Mandela calling for aid for the poor.
Almost 60,000 music fans gathered at Murrayfield Stadium for The Final Push show, as Group of Eight leaders arrived for talks at the Gleneagles resort outside the city, the BBC said.
U2 front man Bono introduced Mandela's recorded message, in which he said: "Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that generation. You have that opportunity."
Bono told the crowd he had been to Gleneagles and given G8 leaders "permission" to spend money "ending extreme poverty in our lifetime."
The Edinburgh concert followed last weekend's Live 8 concerts in London, Cornwall, Philadelphia, Tokyo, Berlin, Paris, Rome, Johannesburg, Moscow and outside Toronto.
