LOS ANGELES, June 29 (UPI) -- Kyra Sedgwick's hit cop drama, "The Closer," has been renewed for a second season, the cable TV network TNT said Wednesday.
The series premiered on June 13 to an audience of more than 5.3 million households, making it ad-supported cable's top original scripted series telecast ever, and it has been renewed for a second 15-episode season.
The announcement was made by Steve Koonin, executive vice president and chief operating officer for TNT and sister network TBS.
The drama stars two-time Golden Globe-nominee Sedgwick as a tough, yet feminine, CIA-trained, Atlanta detective transferred to Los Angeles to head the Priority Homicide Division, much to the dismay of the mostly male department already in place.
"With 'The Closer,' we've found a show that not only fits our brand and our current programming line-up perfectly, but also has proven to be one of television's biggest success stories of the summer," said Koonin.
