Geldof pitches Live 8 at festival

GLASTONBURY, England, June 25 (UPI) -- Live 8 organizer Bob Geldof appeared at an English music festival to talk up his efforts "to make poverty history."

The BBC said Geldof spoke from the main stage of the Glastonbury Festival in Somerset, where all performances were suspended for his speech.

"I want you to individually believe you can change the condition of the most put-upon and beaten-down people on this planet," Geldof said.

He then told the audience to take the next person's hand and chant "Make poverty history."

"I was prepared to be cynical but I thought he spoke really well," Sarah Curtis of Matlock in Derbyshire told the BBC. "I even thought the sun was going to come through, but it didn't quite."

This year's festival has been dimmed by weather. Some campers woke Friday night to find they were surrounded by water.

Officials said trash made the flooding worse since many drains became clogged by plastic bags.
