LOS ANGELES, June 25 (UPI) -- Billy Corgan, busily promoting his first solo record, has announced plans to resurrect Smashing Pumpkins.
Corgan took out full-page ads in the newspapers in his native Chicago to announce his intentions, the Los Angeles Times reported.
In an interview with the Times, Corgan rejected "the reunion culture," saying he was not interested in bringing back the Pumpkins to simply play their old hits from 10 years ago.
"So the minute this comes out everybody goes into their conventional thinking," he said. "Promoters see money, and this guy sees this, and that's not at all what I'm thinking. It's a spiritual journey of figuring out who one is."
Corgan was in Atlanta on a tour tied to his album "TheFutureEmbrace."
Smashing Pumpkins were one of the top groups of the 1990s. They broke up in 2000.
