King Tut exhibit to have lasting impact

MIAMI, June 18 (UPI) -- Officials at the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., expect the King Tut exhibit in December will leave a lasting impression.

"The residual value ... is huge," said Irvin Lippman, executive director of the Museum of Art, in Fort Lauderdale. "It's great to have the exhibition and yes, it's great to welcome hundreds of thousands of people (to the museum), but for the next 20 years those ... people will recall having seen the exhibition in Fort Lauderdale."

The Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs exhibit -- which is of a tour of four U.S. cities -- includes some of 130 artifacts including statues, gold coffinettes, furniture and everyday items like perfume jars and ornamental boxes, reported the Miami Herald.

This exhibit is not a repeat of the highly successful 1976-79 American exhibition that was made up of 55 artifacts from Tut's tomb. This exhibit includes 55 items from the tomb -- 13 of them from Tut's first U.S. tour -- plus dozens of items from the tombs of Tut's father and grandparents.

Tut's gold funerary mask, displayed on the first U.S. exhibition in the late 1970s, is not included in the current exhibit.
