DULUTH, Ga., June 16 (UPI) -- Georgia's so-called runaway bride, Jennifer Wilbanks, has sold the rights to her story of getting cold feet before her wedding for production of a TV movie.
Without disclosing an amount, New York-based ReganMedia confirmed it had "acquired all media rights to the life stories" of Wilbanks and her fiance, John Mason, for development of a script of their life stories.
Days before she was to marry Mason, Wilbanks, 32, of Duluth, Ga., took a bus to New Mexico, triggering a nationwide search. She turned up in Albuquerque, and first claimed she had been kidnapped, but then told the truth.
Earlier this month, Wilbanks pleaded no contest to a felony count of making a false statement to police and received probation and community service.
But her publicity deal doesn't sit well with those who searched for and prosecuted her, the Atlanta Journal Constitution said.
"It's disturbing to me on a personal basis that she's willing to profit from this, but there's nothing I can do about it legally," said Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter.
