Maguire to go mute for 'Quiet Type'

LOS ANGELES, June 13 (UPI) -- Actor Toby Maguire is negotiating to star as a small-town mute who wants to conduct an orchestra in New York in the upcoming "Quiet Type."

Maguire is also negotiating to co-produce the New Line Cinema romantic comedy with Michael London once Maguire completes shooting "Spider-Man 3," which is scheduled for a summer 2007 release.

Maguire's character does not speak at all in the film, the Hollywood Reporter said Monday.

Richard LaGravanese has completed a short rewrite of "Quiet Type," which New Line acquired in 2002 as a spec script from writer Rob Perez for London to produce.

This fall, Maguire is due to shoot the Steven Soderbergh-helmed "The Good German" in which he plays a soldier drawn into a murder mystery, and he has also recently signed on to star in and produce an adaptation of the Isaac Adamson novel, "Tokyo Suckerpunch," for Columbia Pictures.
