Clear Channel caters to lawn lovers

SAN ANTONIO, June 2 (UPI) -- Clear Channel Music Group, in an effort to boost sagging ticket sales, said it will bring in top artists, cut prices and add perks at its outdoor venues.

"It's time to put the focus back on the fan," Chief Executive Officer Michael Rapino told American City Business Journals. "The changes at many of our amphitheaters will be striking."

Clear Channel Music Group owns, operates or exclusively books some 80 live venues in the United States, including 41 amphitheaters. Its parent is Clear Channel Communications Inc., San Antonio, Texas.

Among the amphitheater changes are $20 lawn seats that include parking, a $39 Grass Pass that includes parking plus $10 in food and drinks, improved concessions and allowing concertgoers to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.

The Clear Channel Music Group based the changes on a poll of concertgoers, who rated the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Selma, Texas, as their favorite.
