ABC getting a little bit country

NEW YORK, May 26 (UPI) -- ABC Television is adding two country music specials to its lineup along with the CMA Awards.

Variety reports that the network plans to air "CMA Music Festival: Country Music's Biggest Party" on Aug. 2. "Kenny Chesney: Somewhere in the Sun" airs Nov. 23 after the star completes his current sold-out tour.

ABC broadcasts the CMA Awards for the first time next year. The event has been on CBS for more than 30 years, but ABC reportedly offered 50 percent more for the broadcast rights.

The CMA Awards have the third highest ratings of any award show, beaten only by the Academy Awards and, just barely, by the Grammys.
