NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- Being attacked with a fork by his mother was so unforgettable, "Sopranos" creator David Chase said it just had to be included in the HBO series' storyline.

"She was threatening to poke my eye with a fork. But she was hysterical," Chase said in an interview to be aired on "60 Minutes Wednesday."

Sure enough, there is an episode where, in a flashback, Tony Soprano's mother Livia makes a lunge at him with a fork.

Chase said the rage was so intense, he applied it as well to Tony's character, played by James Gandolfini.

Now in in the sixth season, Chase has harsh words for Soprano, the man he created.

"He's so ridiculous. He really is," Chase said. "He's so deluded -- self-deluded -- and he lies to everyone, most of all to himself."

The background of the real attack on Chase weren't given by the New York Post.
