NEW YORK, May 12 (UPI) -- Bill Murray says actors love playing the quirky characters filmmaker Wes Anderson dreams up because they are so often unique and outspoken.

"The characters don't have any controls on them, especially this fellow I play in 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou,'" Murray recently told reporters in New York. "He doesn't have any censors that say: 'The next thing you're going to say might be bad behavior. You might want to hold that back.' He just sort of lets go. ... All the emotions are expressed."

In "The Life Aquatic," Murray plays an arrogant oceanographer, leading a crew of misfits on an expedition to hunt down the mysterious, possibly non-existent Jaguar Shark that killed Zissou's partner on a previous adventure.

Co-starring Cate Blanchett, Willem Defoe, Anjelica Huston and Owen Wilson, the film is out on DVD and home video this week.
