LOS ANGELES, May 6 (UPI) -- "NYPD Blue" and "Murder One" actor Daniel Benzali is returning to his roots as a singer with a new CD of American pop standards.
The Golden Globe nominated actor's new project, "Benzali," features jazzy covers of classic tunes by Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart, Stephen Sondheim and Irving Berlin, among others.
Before he turned to acting, Benzali sang in a number of bands in New York during the punk rock era. Early in his career, he sang the role Juan Peron in Andrew Lloyd Webber's London production of "Evita."
The new CD was engineered by Al Schmitt -- a 10-time Grammy winner who has engineered projects for Diana Krall, Quincy Jones, Natalie Cole and Steely Dan.
