'The Hitchhiker's Guide' tops box office

HOLLYWOOD, May 1 (UPI) -- In its debut week, Buena Vista's "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" grossed $22 million and topped the U.S. box office, estimated boxofficemojo.com.

Universal's "The Interpreter" made $14 million for a total box office of $44 million.

"XXX: State of the Union," distributed by Sony/Revolution, grossed $13.7 million in its premier week.

MGM's "The Amityville Horror (2005)" made $8 million for a total box office of $55 million, while Paramount's "Sahara" made $6 million for a total box office of $57 million and "A Lot Like Love" made $5 million for a total box office of $15 million.

"Kung Fu Hustle" made $3.8 million for a total box office of $13 million, "Fever Pitch" made $3.7 million for a total box office of $37 million, "Robots" made $2.7 million for a total box office of $124 million and "Guess Who" made $2.2. million for a total box office of $65 million.
