NEW YORK, April 27 (UPI) -- Liza Minnelli and Sharon Stone will headline a May 19 AIDS benefit at the Cannes Film Festival, organizers announced Wednesday.
The American Foundation for AIDS Research said Minelli and Stone will be co-chairwomen of the Cinema Against AIDS gala fundraiser presented by Miramax Films, Palisades Pictures and Quintessentially during the 58th annual Cannes International Film Festival.
Elizabeth Taylor will serve as honorary chairwoman. Also sponsoring the event are Elton John, Roman Polanski, amfAR Founding Chairman Mathilde Krim, amfAR Chairman of the Board Kenneth Cole and Miramax co-founder Harvey Weinstein.
The fundraiser at Le Moulin de Mougins will feature dinner and both live and silent auctions. In past years, the auctions have featured performances by such luminaries as John, Sheryl Crow, Ringo Starr and Shirley Bassey.
Last year's live auction generated nearly $1 million for amfAR, which said it has raised more than $15.2 million for AIDS research since the Cannes benefit was first held in 1993.
