'September' loses idol status for Robinson

LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI) -- The "American Idol" field has been narrowed to six with the elimination of New Jersey middle school music teacher Anwar Robinson, MTV.com reports.

The 1970s disco-themed competition was Robinson's last after his rendition of Earth, Wind & Fire's "September," which MTV described as "uneven."

Before viewer voting began, judge Simon Cowell set the tone, saying "I don't think it was a winning performance."

While he was an early favorite of judge Paula Abdul and a front-runner among oddsmakers, the 25-year-old Robinson netted the fewest viewer votes, leaving six finalists before the show's finale, scheduled for May 24 and 25.

Vonzell Solomon, Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, Constantine Maroulis, Scott Savol and Anthony Fedorov are the remaining would-be pop stars.
