LOS ANGELES, April 21 (UPI) -- Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth gets a chance to prove she can sing as well as act in her movie portrayal of British soul singer Dusty Springfield.
Chenoweth will portray Springfield when she made her most acclaimed album, "Dusty in Memphis," which featured songs such as "Son of a Preacher Man," Zap2it.com reported Thursday.
Throughout her career, Springfield battled substance abuse and had a minor return to fame when she joined the Pet Shop Boys on 1990's "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" She died of cancer in 1999 at the age of 59.
Chenoweth currently guest stars as deputy press secretary Annabeth Schott on NBC's "The West Wing." On the big screen, she will appear in the upcoming "Bewitched," "The Pink Panther" and "Running With Scissors."
