Chan visits Cambodia landmine victims

BATTAMBANG, Cambodia, April 20 (UPI) -- International action star Jackie Chan started his three-day visit to Cambodia Wednesday with calls for a global landmine ban, the BBC reported.

Chan, whose itinerary in the country includes scouting locations for a film on the subject, visited recovering victims and a mine education project as part of an Asian tour for children's charity Unicef.

"I have to stop them," Chan said of the land mines. "They are hurting so many children."

About 4,200 people have been killed by landmines in Cambodia since 2000.

"I want to make a film to promote the campaign to stop land mines," Chan told reporters. He said a script writer and an assistant director are with him to study film locations.
