LOS ANGELES, April 13 (UPI) -- Actor Mark Wahlberg is reportedly in talks to star as Vince Papale, a bartender who made the NFL Philadelphia Eagles as a walk-on.
Daily Variety said Wahlberg was negotiating with Walt Disney Pictures to head the cast of a project that has been developed as "Invincible," but is now undergoing a title change. It's being directed by Ericson Core, who has primarily worked as a cinematographer on such projects as "Daredevil" (2003) and "The Fast and the Furious" (2001).
"Invincible" is being produced by Mayhem Pictures partners Gordon Gray and Mark Ciardi, and Ken Mok. Gray and Ciardi previously produced two other inspirational sports-themed hits for Disney -- "Miracle" and "The Rookie."
At 30, Papale had lost his teaching job and his wife and was tending bar when he answered an open call from then-Eagles coach Dick Vermeil -- who wanted to shake his team out of complacency by inviting fans to compete for a spot on the roster.
