NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- A new musical about the life of Beatle John Lennon with a book based on his own words and music will officially open on Broadway July 28.

Producers said pre-Broadway runs will be stgaged at the Orpheum Theater in San Francisco April 12-May 14 and at the Colonial Theater in Boston May 31-June 25.

The show will begin preview performances July 7 at Broadway's Broadhurst Theater, a little more than a mile south of the Dakota Apartments site of Lennon's slaying by a disaffected fan 25 years ago.

The show has been written and will be directed by Don Scardino, whose theatrical credits include "A Few Good Men." It will include two unpublished Lennon songs among the 27 in the score that have been donated by Lennon's widow, artist Yoko Ono. The two songs are entitled "India, India" and "I Don't Want To Lose You," which exist only on private recordings.
