LOS ANGELES, April 5 (UPI) -- Michael Apted will direct the upcoming political thriller "Amazing Grace" for Walden Media, the Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.

Apted's credits include the 1999 James Bond movie "The World Is Not Enough."

"Amazing Grace" is based on the life of William Wilberforce, a young member of Britain's Parliament who converted to evangelical Christianity in 1785 and became a leader of the movement to abolish slavery.

"Amazing Grace" was written by Steven Knight, whose screenplay for "Dirty Pretty Things" was nominated for an Academy Award in 2003. The movie is being produced by a team that includes Terrence Malick ("The Thin Red Line") and Patricia Heaton ("Everybody Loves Raymond").
