Lawyers talking settlement in Blake suit

LOS ANGELES, March 31 (UPI) -- Actor Robert Blake, acquitted in California of the murder of his wife, now must deal with a civil suit filed on behalf of her children.

The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that Blake's lawyers and lawyers representing the estate of Bonnie Lee Bakley have agreed to work with a mediator in an effort to settle the case. The estate sued three years ago, a year after Bakley was gunned down outside a restaurant in Studio City.

Blake claims he has almost no money after spending $10 million to defend himself on the murder charge. He says he owes $1.5 million in taxes.

The suit is scheduled to go to trial in July. Any damages would go to Bakley's children, including Rosie, 4, her daughter with Blake.
