Movie fans prefer to watch DVDs

LOS ANGELES, March 26 (UPI) -- U.S. movie fans reportedly prefer to watch hit movies on DVDs at home rather than travel to the movie theater at the mall.

In fact, the DVD of the Oscar-winning Disney-Pixar animated film "The Incredibles" sold 5 million copies on its first day in the United States, making $100 million, nearly a third more than during its first weekend in theaters, the Daily Telegraph reported Saturday.

A remake of the "The Flight of the Phoenix," earned $21.2 million in 20 days via DVDs, more than the film made it's entire time at the movie theater.

The Oscar-winning film about the life of Ray Charles, "Ray" grossed $75 million during just its first week on DVD -- something it took 20 weeks to do at movie theaters.

The DVD of Jude Law's remake of the 1966 classic movie "Alfie" drew little interest in movie theaters, but has become the second most requested film on U.S. national list of movie rentals.
