ASCAP to honor Jermaine Dupri

LOS ANGELES, March 25 (UPI) -- The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers will honor composer-producer Jermaine "JD" Dupri at its upcoming awards, the group announced Friday.

Dupri will receive the ASCAP Golden Note Award during the 22nd Annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards ceremonies in Beverly Hills on May 16.

Dupri joins a list of previous winners that includes Garth Brooks, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Alan Jackson, Jay-Z, Elton John and Stevie Wonder.

As a songwriter and producer, Dupri has helped advance the careers of such recording artists as Toni Braxton, Mariah Carey and Destiny's Child. He has also collaborated with such recording superstars as Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Jay-Z, Jessica Simpson and Usher.

Dupri is also a platinum-selling recording artist, whose credits include "The Party Continues," "Money Ain't A Thang," "Sweetheart" and "Welcome To Atlanta."

ASCAP will also honor Neil Young at its Pop Music Awards, with the ASCAP Founders Award. The award is given in recognition of pioneering songwriters who "have made exceptional contributions to music."

Young joins a list of previous winners that includes Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Quincy Jones, Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, Paul McCartney and Joni Mitchell.
