LOS ANGELES, March 24 (UPI) -- George Clooney is working on a movie about legendary CBS newsman Edward R. Murrow, Daily Variety said Thursday.
Clooney is directing "Goodnight, and Good Luck," which was originally planned as a live TV show -- along the lines of Clooney's Emmy-winning 2000 production of "Fail Safe." He told Variety's Army Archerd CBS officials decided against doing "Goodnight, and Good Luck" as a live TV event.
"And (CBS chief) Les (Moonves) was nice enough to let us do it as a feature," Clooney said.
Archerd said Warner Bros. Pictures now plans to release the movie theatrically.
Clooney wrote the screenplay with Grant Heslov, a producer on Clooney's 2003 HBO series "K Street." He said he wanted the Murrow movie to demonstrate that "good hard news is not antiquated and hard journalism can exist."
