LOS ANGELES, March 22 (UPI) -- Jason Bateman and Amy Poehler will star in a remake of "The Heartbreak Kid" for DreamWorks Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.
The paper said Bateman ("Arrested Development") will play a man who marries too quickly when he feels he has finally met the right girl, played by Poehler ("Mean Girls"). During their honeymoon, he discovers that his new wife is a nightmare -- and finds love at first sight with another woman.
James Bobin ("Da Ali G Show") is set to direct from a screenplay by Scott Armstrong ("Starsky & Hutch," "Road Trip") and Leslie Dixon ("Freaky Friday," "Mrs. Doubtfire").
"The Heartbreak Kid" was originally made into a feature in 1972, with a screenplay by Neil Simon, based on a story by Bruce Jay Friedman. The newlyweds were played by Charles Grodin and Jeannie Berlin, and the other woman was played by Cybill Shepherd.
