Ben Affleck sets directing debut

LOS ANGELES, March 22 (UPI) -- Ben Affleck will make his feature film directing debut for Touchstone Pictures with "Gone, Baby, Gone," Daily Variety said Tuesday.

"Gone, Baby, Gone" -- a novel by Dennis Lehane, the writer of "Mystic River" -- is about a two private detectives searching for a kidnapped 4-year-old girl in working-class Boston. The paper said Affleck will direct from his own screenplay.

"Mystic River" was adapted for the screen in 2003, earning six Oscar nominations -- including one for Best Picture and one for Brian Helgeland's adapted screenplay.

Plans call for "Gone, Baby, Gone" to begin filming in Boston this fall. Affleck is not expected to act in the project.
