'Fat Actress' on fast track to home video

LOS ANGELES, March 15 (UPI) -- Showtime is rushing its new Kirstie Alley series "Fat Actress" to DVD to capitalize on the cable TV show's unusually high public awareness.

Daily Variety reported "Fat Actress" will be released on DVD May 24. The series premiered March 7.

A window of less than 90 days is considerably shorter than Showtime typically has for its series. Variety said Showtime series tend to be released on DVD anywhere from six months to nine months after they premiere on the pay cable channel.

The "Fat Actress" premiere ranked among the highest for Showtime.

Alley stars as herself in seven episodes of the series, an account of her weight issues and the ways her weight gain has complicated her acting career.
