AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, March 8 (UPI) -- An exhibition organized by the Rijksmuseum titled "Rembrandt and the Golden Age" will tour the United States beginning in late 2006.

The tour will be part of the Dutch celebration of the 400th anniversary of painter Rembrandt van Rijn's birth in Leiden.

Officials said. The American cities included on the tour will be announced later.

The Rembrandt celebration is being held across the Netherlands and is expected to attract as many as 1.5 million foreign visitors. Leiden will host a series of Rembrandt exhibition at the Lakenhal Museum beginning in December and the University of Leiden will present an exhibition of Rembrandt's engravings opening in April 2006.

The Rijksmuseum will not hold a Rembrandt retrospective due to ongoing reconstruction, but it will mount an exhibition titled "Rembrandt and Caravaggio" to open next February. That exhibition will compare the work of the two "masters of light" from the northern and southern extremities of the Baroque art movement. It will be presented at the Van Gogh Museum.

The museum's Phillips Wing will continue its regular display of Rembrandts, including "The Night Watch," and all of its drawings. There also will be exhibitions at Rembrandt House, including early 20th century British printmakers who were inspired by Rembrandt.
