Warner Bros. commits to Iraq War film

HOLLYWOOD, March 2 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. has engaged Paul Haggis, who wrote the screenplay for "Million Dollar Baby," to write and direct a gritty film about Iraq War veterans.

"Death and Dishonor" is based on a Mark Boal investigative article published in Playboy last summer about a career officer's search for his soldier son, Daily Variety reports.

The youth was reported absent without leave after returning from the frontlines of Baghdad and enjoying a night of revelry with comrades. The soldier's father, Lanny Davis, a retired Army veteran whose long career as a military policeman led him to reject the Army's AWOL claim, began an investigation himself that led to confessions of murder.

Haggis says he will design the film for Clint Eastwood to play the role of the victim's father.
