LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The stylish ride to this year's Oscar ceremony in Los Angeles is a fuel-efficient "green vehicle."
Among those opting for hybrid cars are nominees Leonardo DiCaprio, Natalie Portman and Morgan Freeman. They are joining other celebrities who plan to arrive at the Kodak Theater on Sunday in
Toyota Prius hybrids instead of gas-guzzling limousines.
The celebrities want to demonstrate how each citizen can take a simple yet powerful step to decrease dependence on fossil fuels, reduce air pollution and stem global warming, according to a statement by the Global Green USA Campaign.
"With global warming threatening us all, driving a fuel efficient car like a hybrid is something that everybody can do to protect our planet," said actor Salma Hayek, who will be a presenter at this year's awards ceremony Sunday. "I am proud to do my part: I personally own and drive a hybrid car -- and I love it!"
Oscar presenters Scarlett Johansson, Charliz Theron, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim Robbins, Orlando Bloom, Robin Williams and Penelope Cruz will also be driving the hybrid vehicles.
