Brits pick nation's top actors, actresses

LONDON, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Sean Connery and Judi Dench topped a Sky Broadcasting Group poll seeking Britain's top screen legends.

Connery, the 74-year-old Scottish James Bond star was voted the best British actor of all time, followed by "Silence of the Lambs" actor Anthony Hopkins and then the late Alec Guinness, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

Following those three were, in order, Michael Caine, Laurence Olivier, Richard Burton, Cary Grant, John Mills, Richard Attenborough and Peter Sellers.

Dench was deemed best actress, ahead of Julie Walters and Elizabeth Taylor, in third place.

Following those three were, in order, "Calendar Girls" star Helen Mirren, "Mary Poppins" legend Julie Andrews and "Harry Potter" star Maggie Smith at No. 6. After them came, in order, Thora Hird and Vanessa Redgrave, both tied for seventh place, Kate Winslet and Emma Thompson.
