SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- Oscar nominees Leonardo DiCaprio and Morgan Freeman plan to arrive at the Academy Awards in hybrid cars, an environmental group said Wednesday.

Global Green -- the Santa Monica-based U.S. affiliate of Green Cross International, led by former Soviet Union Premiere Mikhail Gorbachev -- said other celebrities planning to pull up to the red carpet in Toyota Prius hybrids Sunday include Charlize Theron, Robin Williams, Orlando Bloom, Salma Hayek and Tim Robbins. It's part of the organization's third annual "Red Carpet--Green Cars" campaign.

"Hybrid cars help us conserve natural resources and preserve the planet," said Bloom.

"By foregoing gas-guzzling limos, Oscar attendees show their support for fuel efficient cars to decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce air pollution, and stem climate change," said Matt Petersen, president of Global Green USA.
