SHEFFIELD, England, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- U.S. rock band REM has delayed its British tour because of the hospitalization of bassist Mike Mills, the BBC reported Tuesday.

Mills was reported to be suffering from "severe flu-like symptoms." The band cut short its Monday night's show in Sheffield and rescheduled Tuesday's Glasgow concert.

Mills could "hardly stand up, let alone play", an REM spokesman said. The spokesman said Mills was now "resting" in hospital.

Tuesday's Glasgow gig was rescheduled for June 15. Those with tickets for the show were advised to retain their ticket stubs.

The spokesman said the band would review its remaining dates on a "day-to-day basis" based on doctors' advice to Mills.
