Windsor Castle won't host Charles' wedding

LONDON, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- Britain's royal family has dropped Windsor Castle as the site of Prince Charles' wedding because it would open the door for commoner weddings at the site.

The change of venue for Charles' wedding to Camilla Parker Bowles was ordered after royal officials discovered the license permitting a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle would run for three years, raising the distasteful prospect of hordes of commoners booking the Queen's favorite residence for their nuptials, the Times of London reported Friday.

Instead of Windsor Castle, the couple is tying the knot at the nearby Guildhall in the center of Windsor, thus incurring far greater expense to the public for security measures.

The town center will be effectively shut down, roads closed to traffic, police dogs will have to be sent in to look for explosives and the movement of people will be severely restricted.
