'Shark Tale' a hit on video

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 15 (UPI) -- "Shark Tale" generated more than $80 million in consumer spending during its first week on home video, The Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.

Citing DreamWorks Home Entertainment executives, the paper said video revenues for the DreamWorks Animation feature surpassed its $56 million opening-week box-office take. DHE head Kelley Avery told The Reporter "Shark Tale" sold more than 6 million DVD and VHS units combined in the United States and Canada -- more than 5.5 million of which were DVDs.

"While we had a tremendous marketing campaign," said Avery, "I believe that its success on DVD can be attributed to a combination of the attention 'Shark Tale' has received from its Academy Award nomination and from overwhelming retailer support."

"Shark Tale" is nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, along with "The Incredibles" and "Shrek 2."
