ASPEN, Colo., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Cheech and Chong, who gained fame for their drug comedy in the 1970s, are planning to return to the big screen, The Hollywood Reporter said Monday.
Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong told reporters at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Colo., last week they are in the final stages of writing a screenplay. Cheech and Chong parlayed their stoner standup comedy into a string of lowbrow comedy movies that included "Up in Smoke" and "Still Smokin."
They performed together in Aspen Thursday -- their first stage reunion in 25 years.
"We are working on a new movie now," Marin said after the show. "We are nearly done with the script."
The Reporter said both comics said they would like to see the film get a 2005 release -- possibly even a summer release, if they can get it completed in time. Both said the movie would be along the lines of what their fans have come to expect, but Marin said it would be "age- and time-appropriate."
