'Aviator,' 'Vera Drake' sweep BAFTAs

LONDON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- Martin's Scorsese's "The Aviator" and Mike Leigh's "Vera Drake" split the top awards Saturday at the 2005 British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards.

"The Aviator" was named best film, and star Cate Blanchett won best supporting actress.

However, "Vera Drake" helmer Mike Leigh was dubbed Best Director, and lead actress Imelda Staunton took the best actress award.

Jamie Foxx won best actor for his performance in "Ray," while British actor Clive Owen took best supporting actor for "Closer."
