Feb. 10, 2005 at 1:15 PM

LONDON, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- "Sideways" captured the top film award at the 25th London Film Critics' Circle Awards while "Vera Drake" was the big winner overall with five awards.

Jamie Foxx took best actor kudos for "Ray" and the actress prize went to "Vera Drake" lead Imelda Staunton, Daily Variety said Thursday.

Although his "The Aviator" missed out on the big prize, the London critics lauded Martin Scorsese as best director.

LFCC hands out separate awards for British pictures and "Vera Drake" won best picture in that category. Kate Winslet ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind") and Eva Birthistle ("A Fond Kiss") shared the best actress nod and Daniel Craig ("Enduring Love") took the best British actor prize.
