MEMPHIS, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Tennessee prosecutors will not pursue charges against actor Anthony Anderson who was accused of raping a movie extra last summer.
"At this point we do not feel we have a provable case," District Attorney Bill Gibbons told the Memphis Commercial Appeal.
The alleged victim is a 25-year-old woman who was working on the set of the rap-themed "Hustle & Flow."
She told authorities on July 27 that Anderson, 34, and assistant director Wayne Witherspoon, 43, sexually assaulted her in a dressing-room trailer, despite her screams for them to stop. She also said the two men had forced her to have sex twice the previous day in a downtown hotel, but she did not report that to police.
In a preliminary hearing in October, a former boyfriend testified the woman told him she was claiming she was raped in an effort to get money.
General Sessions Criminal Court Judge Anthony Johnson threw out the case, calling it the most suspicious rape case he'd heard in 20 years.
