LOS ANGELES, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Hollywood will name one of its historic intersections after legendary cowboy star Gene Autry, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced Thursday.
Hollywood Historic Trust Chairman Johnny Grant said the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue will be named Gene Autry Square, as part of Hollywood's 118th birthday celebration Feb. 1.
"Gene Autry loved Hollywood -- the industry and had an equal passion for Hollywood -- the community," Grant said.
Hollywood and Highland is best known for the historic El Capitan and Mann's Chinese theaters and for the Kodak Theater, the new parmanent home of the annual Academy Awards presentation.
The first of the four signs designating the intersection as Gene Autry Square will be unveiled in ceremonies featuring an appearance by Autry's widow, Jackie Autry, and a performance of some of Autry's popular Western songs by Foy Willing's Riders of the Purple Sage.
