LOS ANGELES, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Fed up with snide remarks about her weight gain, Kirstie Alley is responding with a parody of herself in the upcoming "Fat Actress" comedy on Showtime.

Some of the comments in the tabloids and the Hollywood community were malicious, said the former star of "Cheers" and "Veronica's Closet" who has struggled with her weight for years.

"I couldn't have been attacked any more than I was being attacked," she told the New York Daily News.

"I was under siege 24/7. So it has actually been very liberating to decide, you know, there's got to be humor in this. I'm not the only person in the world who's gotten fat."

"Fat Actress" debuts March 7.
