LOS ANGELES, Jan. 11 (UPI) -- The Broadcast Film Critics Association in Los Angeles named "Sideways" the best picture of 2004.

The group Monday night also honored writer-director Alexander Payne's road-trip comedy with awards for Payne and his writing partner Jim Taylor, and for supporting performances by Thomas Hayden Church and Virginia Madsen -- as well as for best ensemble acting in a feature film.

Jamie Foxx won for best actor for his performance in "Ray." In his acceptance speech, he said the award should be for supporting actor -- since the true winner should be the late Ray Charles.

Hilary Swank was named best actress for her performance in the Clint Eastwood boxing movie "Million Dollar Baby."

"Sideways" has been named best picture by film critics groups in Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Toronto. It is also nominated for a Golden Globe Award and a Producer Guild of America award for best picture.
