SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- A book by Scott Peterson's ex-girlfriend about her relationship with the condemned killer is already a top seller at U.S. bookstores.
Amber Frey said little during her two-year ordeal but now she's making the rounds in a television media blitz promoting "Witness for the Prosecution of Scott Peterson," her 210-page book that was Amazon.com's best seller just two days after it was published. Some stores sold out of the book.
"It allows me to tell my story in my voice," Frey told the San Francisco Chronicle. "This is a way for me to set the record straight."
After being identified as Peterson's girlfriend a month after his eight-months-pregnant wife, Laci, went missing, Frey made a brief statement to the media before a gag order was imposed on witnesses in the case, which drew extraordinary media coverage.
Peterson was convicted in December of killing his wife and their unborn child and a jury recommended he be put to death.
"I had a great understanding as to why there needed to be silence," said Frey, who stayed quiet amid suggestions she might have had a hand in the Laci's disappearance as well as speculation she helped police so she could sell her story.
