K. Bosworth as Lois Lane in Superman film

SYDNEY, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Kate Bosworth has reportedly beaten Beyonce for the role of Superman's girlfriend in the upcoming "Superman Returns" movie to be filmed in Australia.

The 22-year-old girlfriend of Orlando Bloom will join Brandon Routh as Clark Kent and Kevin Spacey as ultra-evil Lex Luthor, Sky News reported Wednesday.

Among the celebrities who declined the role Routh is playing are Jude Law, Nicolas Cage, Paul Walker, Brendan Fraser and Matthew Bomer.

Bryan Singer will direct the movie, which starts filming in Australia in March and is scheduled for a 2006 release.
